Today, our team expanded its technical knowledge. We had an informative CPD session presented by Adam from Pure Vista. The topic was the RIBA-approved “Architects Guide to Glass Balustrades”. The session explored key safety principles, specification requirements, and recent updates to balustrade standards.
Understanding Compliance and Loadings
Adam detailed crucial compliance standards, specifically covering the requirements of BS 6180:2011. We explored line load capabilities ranging from 0.36 kN for domestic applications to 3.0 kN for heavy commercial use. Adam also discussed important updates, including A2 fire-safe systems. This clarity on different load ratings is essential for supporting our work across varied domestic and commercial projects.
Product Innovation and Installation
During the CPD, Adam introduced several Pure Vista systems, including POSIglaze, MEGAgrip and ARIA Juliet. These products use patented screw-clamp technology to support precise installation. They also achieve impressive strength-to-weight ratios due to their hollow-core aluminium design. Each system is thoroughly tested and certified for edge protection.
Mitigating Specification Risk
We also discussed common specification issues. Adam highlighted how selecting the correct glass type, fixing method, and loading requirement is essential to prevent future failures. This detail is vital in both refurbishment and new-build projects. His examples showed how early technical input reduces risk for clients and contractors.
Our team gained valuable specification insights today. We thank Adam for his excellent presentation.
