THE MAJORITY of property purchasers rely on a standard mortgage valuation. This is the briefest of reports geared to protect the interests of the lender (some banks or building societies will not allow you to see the report and may not disclose its contents). Hence when you are buying a new home it is important that you commission an independent survey to assist you to evaluate the true cost of your future investment. The RICS recommends one of the following surveys is undertaken prior to purchase: HBSV (Homebuyers Survey and Valuation)   BUILDING SURVEY (Formerly known as a structural survey)
